What is a podcast?
A Podcast is one form of broadcasting media (audio, video, static files) via the web. The formatted file is downloaded to a computer for playback.
What is iTunes University?
It is a service to deliver podcasts to University students, staff, faculty and greater community and hosted by Apple computer. It uses the iTunes software to download, playback, and transfer podcasts to a media player.
Why is Sac State on iTunes University?
At Teaching Using Technology 2005 faculty were curious about podcasts and their use in the classroom. A TUT faculty mentor demonstrated a podcast with audio and video. The faculty then suggested in their evaluations to begin looking into this technology for use in future TUT programs. In January, iTunes U was introduced and the faculty mentors began to explore its potential. The podcasts file deliver audio, video, and PDF files so TUT faculty mentors decided to pilot this for Spring 2007.
What does Sac State offer on iTunes U?
Sac State decided to offer podcasts for students by faculty that voluntarily agreed to try this new technology in the classroom. Also, other Sac State program centers are using it to deliver timely information to students (Student Affairs, Library), Staff and Faculty Technology tutorials and information (ATCS, CTL) and Community information for alumni and the greater Sacramento community (Public Affairs, Library) There may be more information added as this systems continues to develop.
Is Sac State on iTunes U free?
Yes!
I don't go to Sac State, can I still get Sac State news and Information via
iTunes U?
Yes! While some sections of Sac State on iTunes requires authentications, most sections can be freely browsed, downloaded and played from our iTunes U web site.
What do I need to get Sac State on iTunes University?
You need to download a podcast player. The iTunes player is the easiest to use but we will be exploring ways to deliver podcasts with other mechanisms. To get the player go to www.apple.com/itunes and download it. Install it on your computer, and head over to itunes.csus.edu to download course material, and information for students, staff and faculty.
Why do I need to use iTunes to get Sac State podcasts?
It is the easiest player to use, it authenticates well with Saclink, and it is the current player that integrates seamlessly with the hosted service by Apple. We are looking to delivering podcasts by other means in the next phase of this pilot.
Do I need an iPod to use Sac State on iTunes U?
No, an iPod is not required.
Do I need a Mac to use Sac State on iTunes U?
No, Windows-based iTunes software is available at www.apple.com/itunes.

Download the player (see above) and logon to itunes.csus.edu.
How do I subscribe to Sac State on iTunes U?
You can subscribe to anyone podcast series by navigating to the desired subject, and clicking on the subscribe button. (see Sac State on iTunes Quick Guide)
Can I post my own podcast on Sac State's iTunes U?
At this time only faculty that host their courses on Sac State iTunes U are posting podcasts for their students.

At this time, there is no mechanism for us to prevent the multiple times you can play a podcast. However we really want you to get the most out of Sac State so yes, keep playing all the podcasts that interest you; and let us know if you want some more! - write to itunes@csus.edu.
Can I make a backup of all my Podcasts from Sac State's iTunes U?
Yes, of course. You are free to download, playback, delete or backup any podcast from Sac State.

It is found under the Podcasts section of the Library on your left side of the iTunes client. Also, as a service for you, we have automatically created a Sacramento State playlist where you will find any podcast downloaded from Sac State iTunes U!
I downloaded a PDF from Sac State iTunes U, how do I use it?
Simple, just double click the PDF icon on the track title (really the PDF file title) and your PDF reader (Acrobat Reader) will open it.

There are assigned program center staff from the Library, Public Relations, Center for Teaching and Learning, and Academic Technology and Creative Services that can post information but we are looking to increase this by including other program centers in the future.
